The numbers of infant death in San Francisco are high. According to the City and County of San Francisco Department of Public Health 2017 report show that between 2012-2014 the infant death rate was 2.9 per 1,000 live births. Black Infants were 4 times higher than Whites and Asians at 9.6 per 1,000 live births. (Comparing Latino Infants at 3.9, White Infants at 2.1, and Asian Infants 2.0 deaths per 1,000 live births) The Black infant mortality rate is high however we want to take the approach of informing to empower families with the tools to have a healthy informed birth no matter what their, budget, race, or sexuality is. If we look at it as all of our problems and not just an individual group, we can improve better health for all babies and families.
As an original San Francisco Native born and raised in the Fillmore district, it is an honor as well as my duty to work with and give back to the community that has helped me become who I am. With over 20 years of working in childcare, grade school, high school and now a Birth/ Postpartum Doula with certification in newborn care I definitely see the correlations of a child's development from prenatal and beyond.
Parents will also have opportunities to win prizes and compete in shower games and activities In addition to the fun activities, attendees will also receive a gift bag.“The goal is to provide information to families resources to have a healthy child from prenatal to kindergarten. Also to get the mothers to know and understand their value and find their voice.”
